Control Panels List for WEB Hosting

Many control panels are used to maintenance WEB hosts. Well-known Control Panels are WHM/cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, Webmin etc. As an user, I always like WHM/cPanel for my hosting control panel. But as a server administrator I don't like  WHM/cPanel as it needs a lot of server resource to run properly.

WHM/cPanel (Unix)(Windows version coming soon): cPanel is a Unix based web hosting control panel that provides a graphical interface and automation tools designed to simplify the process of hosting a web site. cPanel utilizes a 3 tier structure that provides functionality for administrators, resellers, and end-user website owners to control the various aspects of website and server administration through a standard web browser.

Plesk (Windows/Unix): The Parallels Plesk Panel (ex: Parallels Plesk Control Panel, Plesk Server Administrator, PSA,] or just Plesk) software package is a commercial web hosting automation program. Originally released under the U.S. company Plesk Inc. and designed in Novosibirsk, Russia, Plesk was acquired by SWSoft in July 2003. SWSoft renamed themselves under the Parallels name (a brand which had been acquired by SWSoft) in 2008.

DirectAdmin: DirectAdmin is a graphical web-based web hosting control panel designed to make administration of websites easier.

Webmin (Unix): Webmin is a web-based system configuration tool for Unix-like systems, although recent versions can also be installed and run on Windows. With it, it is possible to configure operating system internals, such as users, disk quotas, services or configuration files, as well as modify and control open source apps, such as the Apache HTTP Server, PHP or MySQL.

H-sphere (H-sphere): H-Sphere is a web hosting Automation Control Panel for shared web hosting services that was developed by Positive Software and acquired by Parallels, Inc. in September 2007. It is available for Linux, Unix and Windows environments and works with MySQL, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases. H-Sphere has been written in Java and works with any SQL-compliant database.

Hosting and Domain

Many people ask me what is domain and what is hosting when they talk about their own web site building. As they have very little knowledge in this field, I don't go for any technical description, I just tell a few simple lines which will be understandable for them. I tell them, think your web site is a house of shop or office or something like that. To build a house, you need land, where your house will be build. And your house need an address or holding number. Domain is the address of your web site, and hosting is the land of your web site. In all cases, I found general people understand the whole thing very easily.

Actually web hоsting or Internet hosting allows anyone to make their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts provide the hosting service. They provide space on a server for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. The server may be their own or leas. And
a domain name is an identification string that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control in the Internet. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS). The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) manages the top-level development and architecture of the Internet domain name space.
